Checking Laptop Battery Condition By Operating System

Laptop battery condition is easiest to check with the operating system’s built-in diagnostics. Windows gives the most detailed capacity report, macOS presents a condition and maximum-capacity reading, and ChromeOS shows health and cycle count directly.

  2. Select About ChromeOS, then choose Diagnostics.
  3. Open the battery area and read the health percentage and cycle count.

A replacement decision should combine capacity, cycle count, system warnings, and real unplugged behavior. Reading those four signals together avoids replacing a healthy pack because of one strange estimate and avoids ignoring a worn pack that still reaches 100% charge.
