How to Program a Brightstar Remote Using a Code
This is the fastest method. You need the 3-digit code for your TV brand from the table above.
- Turn on the TV you want to control.
- Press and hold the Setup button on the Brightstar remote.
- Hold it until the LED light blinks once and stays on. Then release.
- Enter the 3-digit code for your TV brand using the number keys.
- If the LED turns off, the code was accepted. Test the volume or channel buttons.
- If the LED blinks, the code is wrong. Repeat from Step 2 with the next code on the list.
If the remote responds to volume but not channel (or vice versa), try the next code. A partial response usually means a near-match — the next code in the list will likely be the right one.
How to Program a Brightstar Remote Without a Code
Use this method if your TV brand isn’t in the list, or none of the listed codes work. The remote scans through its entire code database automatically.
- Turn on the TV.
- Press and hold the Setup button until the LED blinks and stays on.
- Release the Setup button.
- Press the CH+ button slowly and repeatedly. Each press advances to the next code in the database.
- Stop when the TV channel changes — that means the remote found a working code.
- Press OK to lock the code. The remote is now programmed.
This scan can take up to 60 key presses for less common TV brands. If you pass the correct code, press CH− to go back through the sequence. Keep going back and forth until the channel responds.

How to Find a Forgotten Code on Your Brightstar Remote
If the remote is already programmed but you’ve forgotten the code, the remote itself can display it through LED blink signals.
- Turn on the TV.
- Press and hold Setup until the LED blinks and stays on.
- Press Setup again and release it.
- Press each number key slowly from 0 to 9, then repeat the sequence two more times (three full cycles total).
- Each time the LED blinks, that blink represents one digit of the stored code. Count the blinks carefully.
This works on all supported BR100 series models.
Brightstar Remote Not Working? — Troubleshooting
Why Codes Fail
Several things cause valid codes to not work:
- Dead or weak batteries. A low battery won’t hold the LED on long enough to complete code entry. Replace batteries first — always.
- Wrong remote model. The BR100B, BR100P, and BR100R share most codes, but not all. Confirm your exact model number on the back label.
- TV firmware update. Some smart TVs update their IR profiles after firmware changes. A code that worked before may need to be re-entered.
- IR path blocked. The remote requires a clear line of sight to the TV’s IR receiver. A soundbar, console, or furniture placed in front of the TV can block the signal.
- Incorrect code for the model year. Some brands like LG and Samsung use different codes across TV generations. Try all listed codes for your brand before moving to auto-scan.

What to Do If No Code Works
If you’ve tried every code in the list and the auto-scan method fails, the Brightstar remote likely doesn’t have your TV’s IR code in its database. This happens most often with newer smart TV models from TCL, Hisense, and newer Vizio lines released after 2023.

How to Factory Reset Your Brightstar Remote
A factory reset wipes the stored code and returns the remote to default settings. Do this before reprogramming or before passing the remote to someone else.
- Press the Setup button until the LED stays on.
- Press the CC button (Closed Captions).
- The LED will blink and turn off. The reset is complete.

How to Set a Sleep Timer with Your Brightstar Remote
If your TV has a built-in sleep timer, press the Sleep button on the Brightstar remote. The sleep timer menu will appear on screen. Keep pressing Sleep to cycle through available time intervals.
If your TV doesn’t have a built-in sleep function, the Brightstar remote has its own internal timer:
- Press and hold the Sleep button until the LED stays on.
- Enter a 2-digit number using the number keys — this sets the sleep timer in minutes. For example, press 3 then 0 for 30 minutes. The range is 01 to 99 minutes.

What devices does a Brightstar universal remote work with? Brightstar remotes primarily work with TVs. Some models also support DVD players and basic cable boxes. They are not designed to control Roku sticks, Amazon Fire TV, or Apple TV streaming devices.
