The TV uses it to isolate whether a downloaded app — not the TV itself — is causing crashes or errors. If Safe Mode returns after every restart without a stuck button in sight, a bad app is almost certainly forcing it. The TV keeps booting into Safe Mode as a protective response to a corrupted install.
The goal here: identify and remove the problem app while you still have access to settings in Safe Mode.
- While in Safe Mode, go to Settings.
- Open Apps (Android TV) or navigate to Device Preferences → Apps (Google TV).
- Look for apps added in the last few days.
- Select the most recent one → tap Uninstall.
- Restart the TV and check if Safe Mode returns.
Go one app at a time. Start with the most recently installed, then work backward. Once the bad app is gone, Safe Mode stops triggering on boot.
Fix 6 — Factory Reset (Last Resort)
Use this only if all five fixes above have failed. A factory reset wipes the TV back to its original out-of-box state.

If it’s a one-time event, don’t overthink it. A random power glitch or accidental button press during boot causes single Safe Mode events all the time.
If it keeps happening, here are the real causes:

- Corrupted app — a bad install is crashing the startup sequence. Safe Mode activates as a protective fallback.
